Baramulla: In a 1990s style crackdown, security forces on Sunday cordoned off Fathegarh village in Sheeri Baramulla to conduct massive crackdown in which at least 30 persons were arrested while forces including Army launched door to door search to arrest youth allegedly involved in stone pelting incidents in 2016 unrest.
According to locals, forces had cordoned the entire village during midnight and house-to-house searches began at around 4 am in which 30 people were arrested.
“Last time we witnessed such a crackdown was in 90’s.Large contingents of forces including Army launched three tier crack down of Fathegarh village and conducted house to house searches. Atleast 30 people were arrested today. In previous raid, four persons including three from a single Sofi family were arrested triggering protest and clashes,” said Mohammad Akbar, a local.
Locals said that such a crackdown is “first time” in last fifteen years. “Not scores, but thousands of men in uniform raided the village,” a local said.
